Sportsmans Gazetteer {1877 Hunting & Fishing} on CD (1905)

The sportsman's gazetteer and general guide written by Charles Hollock in 1877 - covers the game animals, birds and fishes of North America • their habits and various methods of capture. Copious instructions in shooting, fishing, taxidermy, woodcraft, etc. Together with a directory to the principal game resorts of the country, illustrated with maps

The American Field magazine printed the following about Hallock's book. Probably there are few sportsmen who are known so widely by name, and so little by direct personal acquaintance as Charles Hallock. His books and writings have given him prominence in the field of natural history and sport, and have always been accepted as authoritative because he speaks only of what he has observed and experienced, not by hearsay."

Charles Hallock was a journalist and author born in New York, 1834. Some of his many accomplishments were he founded Forest and Stream in 1873, editor for Nature's Realm, editor for Northwestern Field and Stream, founded International Assn. for Protection of Game, formulated uniform game laws, 1875, founder of Hallock, Minnesota, and did collection and field work for Smithsonian. His books include: Recluse of the Oconee • Sketches of Stonewall Jackson • Camp Life in Florida • Vacation Rambles in Michigan • Dog Fancier's Medical Guide • The Salmon Fisher and Our New Alaska along with many pamphlets and articles on natural history and other subjects.
